A trip to the Woodland Gardens off the A96 on Sunday 3rd April was a great opportunity to flex the photography muscles, with a chance to have some work on display.

The event, hosted by Rafford Village Hall, offered one-on-one training with professional photographer Nick Gibbons, who helped budding photographers take better pictures on any device.

Part of a series taking place once a month until September, the excursion was open to everyone after booking online, the only equipment needed being a phone or camera and a packed lunch.

Rafford Village Hall Committee Chair Ruth Whitfield said: “We had a fantastic day at Burgie Arboretum. We had fun and learned a lot as part of a lovely group.

“The idea is to help locals capture beautiful images of local scenes and landmarks in the Finderne area and then select some of those images to feature in the Finderne 2023 calendar and possibly on greeting cards as well.

“There will also be an exhibition at Rafford Village Hall once the project is complete, featuring the best photographs.”

The series of free events is made possible by a grant from the Berry Burn Community Fund – a program funded by a local wind farm.

In total, the Finderne calendar project is set to receive £1,060 from the fund.

Ms Whitfield said the money would be useful in reducing production costs.

She said: “We’ve been delighted to hear about our successful application for funding from the Berryburn Community Fund – it’s been a huge help for our Finderne calendar project.

“The funding will be used to purchase materials for the exhibition as well as to partially pay for the calendars.

“We intend to use a local printer, it all depends on costs which change from week to week as prices for everything are very volatile at the moment.

“The calendars will be sold to anyone who wishes to purchase them. They will be advertised online through Rafford Village Hall, Finderne Community Council Finderne Development Trust, in and around Forres and the Finderne area.”
